Prepare for fire season – free green waste disposal starts Saturday 30 November 2019

Ararat Rural City residents can deposit green waste for free at their local transfer station for two weeks from Saturday 30 November under the Council’s annual fire season clean-up push.

Ararat Rural City Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison said every year the Council encouraged land owners to clean up their properties before the fire season.

Dr Harrison said this year, residents do not need a voucher to dispose of green waste but the Council has still produced its fire preparedness brochure that is now available.

“Between Saturday 30 November and Sunday 15 December inclusive residents can take domestic quantities of uncontaminated greet waste to any Ararat Rural City Council transfer station for free,” he said.

“All you need to do is provide proof of residency such as a driver’s licence, utilities bill or rates notice, and make sure your green waste is not contaminated with household garbage, building material, recyclables or any other contaminant.

“The maximum load allowed per visit is 1m3 of waste, which is the equivalent of one car-boot load, one ute load or a small trailer load. No hard waste will be accepted under this program.”

Dr Harrison said the fire preparedness brochure outlined how residents can prepare their properties for the bushfire season and provided information on Neighbourhood Safer Places and property inspections.

The brochure is available for download from the Council’s website - click here - and also in hard copy at the Council office, 59 Vincent Street, Ararat, and various locations around the municipality.
