Function to honour Ararat Rural City volunteers

Ararat Rural City Council will honour residents who go out of their way to lend a hand with a Civic Reception hosted by Mayor, Cr Paul Hooper at the Alexandra Oval Community Centre on Tuesday night.

The function will coincide with National Volunteer Week which runs from May 8-14 across Australia and celebrates the generous contribution of our volunteers.

Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Paul Hooper said everyone is welcome to attend the event at Alexandra Oval Community Centre, beginning at 6pm.

Cr Hooper said the event gives groups a chance to say thank-you to the people who are the lifeblood of their organisation.

“We all know someone within a club or group who gives untold hours to making sure things get done and without them the place just wouldn’t be the same,” he said.

“There are many quiet achievers who run events and maintain facilities and community assets and we would love the opportunity to say thank you to these people who make our community what it is.”

Many volunteers may be unaware that their activities are considered to be volunteering. For example, someone who is a member of a sports club committee may not consider that they are ‘volunteers’. Volunteering itself can mean different things to different people.

Cr Hooper said the volunteer rate in rural areas remained strong.

“Ararat Rural City councillors would like to let every person within the community know that we appreciate the work they do,” he said.

“Many of you are the life blood of your organisations and clubs and without you, those groups just wouldn’t exist and Ararat Rural City would not be the vibrant place it is.”
