Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of our volunteer program at the Ararat Rural City Council. The following is designed to assist you in making your decision about becoming a volunteer by providing you with some basic information. 

Volunteers play a vital and valuable role in the provision of services to our community.  We have volunteers in a variety of roles.

Volunteering can be a fun way of meeting new people, helping others and developing new skills. It is also about sharing and developing personal skills and strengthening links between people in Ararat Rural City and its surrounding region.

Terms and Conditions

The following terms and conditions apply to all volunteers of Ararat Rural City Council:

• Volunteering is a non-paid position.

• Volunteers are expected to perform their volunteer tasks with due care, skill and diligence.

• Volunteers are covered for Public Liability Insurance and Personal Accident Insurance (subject to the terms and conditions of the policy), only while they are engaged as a volunteer in a volunteer position and where their volunteering activity on any day is approved and coordinated by Ararat Rural City Council.

• Under the terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act volunteers must follow all established practices, procedures and instructions of Council which apply to their volunteer tasks.

• Volunteers must report all hazards, incidents, injuries and property damage to their supervisor as soon as practicable.

• Volunteers must undertake all checks applicable to their position, including police and working with children checks.
