With the demise of the One Tree Hillclimb in 2002, motor sport in the local area was in a decline. In August 2006, a small group of local motoring enthusiasts met and resolved to "Re-climb the Hill", and so the Ararat Car Club Inc. was formed.
In 2008 we held our first hillclimb at One Tree Hill with great success. since then we have striven to continue providing a safe venue for locals and those from further afield to test their vehicles and their driving skills. since 2006 the Ararat Car Club is proud to have installed over $60,000 worth of safety barrier making it safer, not only for racing but anyone who uses the public road.
Since 2009 the Ararat Car Club has held a round of the Victorian Hillclimb Championship in June and the iconic King of the Hill hillclimb in November. 2018 has seen an expansion of events to include the airport challenge(motorkhana) and the JHRF driving test.
Our next challenge is to get an unrestricted track licence to allow some of the faster open wheeler type vehicles to enter The Ararat Car Club is incorporated, formally affiliated with CAMS, and has successfully sought permission from the Rural City of Ararat Council to run closed road competition on the One Tree Hill Road.
We have a growing membership and with great assistance from others. We continue to received some great community support from groups such as CFA, SES, Rotary, ARBA and Ararat Rural City Council Other car clubs have also given their support including The Ballarat Light Car Club, Gippsland Car Club, Maffra and District Car Club and MG Car Club and many more.
